Easy DIY Metal Ottoman Glam Makeover

When I say easy DIY… I mean it. I think anyone could handle a project like this one. It is the perfect-sized project. My mom has become one of the best thrift store shoppers when it comes to furniture and glassware. I am so proud of her. She found this ottoman at a local Goodwill store and gave it to my sister for her new apartment.

I thought it would be fun to put a glam romantic twist to this piece.

Supplies needed for this easy DIY:

Step 1

Unscrew the screws holding the cushion in place on the frame. You can use a screw gun or screwdriver for this. Usually, there are a few screws securing the cushion in place. Once you unsecured them, the top should come right off. Make sure to keep all of the original screws together. I like to put mine in an old spray paint can top turned upside down.

Step 2

Clean the metal frame of the ottoman with Lysol wipes or a damp paper towel. Get your spray paint ready.

Step 3

Set up your spray paint area. This could be as little as newspapers surrounding the furniture piece. I have a special collapsible table that I open up on my balcony.

Step 4

Spray about 2 layers of your paint color on the piece.

As long as the original color is lighter than the color you want to spray paint it.

If the original color is darker, you will want to prime the metal with a lighter primer. Let it dry before spraying your light paint color on it.

Step 5

Wrap your fabric around your cushion and staple to secure it into place. Make sure you keep the fabric taught during this process.

Once your ottoman base is dry, secure it to the cushion and you are DONE! See I told you this would be an easy DIY project!

My sister ended up LOVING her new ottoman for her apartment. It is super cute and works well in her little studio apartment by the beach!

She is still decorating in stages but it is coming together nicely!
